Save Hundreds With One Word…

You don’t need a lasso of truth to know that one word will save you  hundreds this summer…that word is NO.
We all do things, go places, and volunteer when we’d rather not.  Being a Wonder Woman who bakes for the bake sale, shuttles the kids, takes classes, works, crafts, and hosts everything is not only draining, but can have a real impact on your relationships and finances.  It’s hard to say “no” to invitations, good causes and favors. We don’t want to be viewed as mean or unaccommodating, so often we put ourselves in a position of living beyond our financial and emotional means.
Don’t invest time or money into something you feel pressured to do.  Just say “Let me think about it.”
If you do decide to decline, be clear and concise.  Don’t give excuses or promise to help in the future. Let the person know you appreciate being asked but simply cannot.  Skipping three birthday parties a year saves you around $75 in gifts, and saying no to the Karate lessons your kid wants to sign up for on top of their existing tuba lessons, scouts and poke’mon habit will save you at least another couple hundred this year, gee’s ain’t cheap you know.   Down time is just as important as busy time, it’s in the down time when there are no looming deadlines, time limits, or projects that you recharge your batteries, rest your debt card, and make real connections.  Ever notice how Superman has a fortress of solitude?  I think we Wonder Women need to take a page from his comic book.
Being frugal is more than pinching pennies. It’s about investing your time and money into the things that benefit you and your family, not over extend them.
